Digital Campfire: August 6, 2020 Meetup

Facebook Live Event
Thursday, August 6, 2020 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Join your SA tech industry for a special online event on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 4pm to 5:30pm featuring local Texas based researchers and faculty from NASA, SwRI & UTSA.

Let’s connect as we share information on understanding exoplanets (planets around other stars), visiting planets in our own Solar System, and the next steps for human exploration of the Moon. In this digital campfire event you will hear inspiring stories of San Antonio and Texas leadership working on these new frontiers of science and exploration.

We will also discuss opportunities for local San Antonio science and technology companies to participate in these NASA-led space programs. Tech Bloc Operations and Community manager, Ileana Gonzalez will host the broadcast featuring:

  • Chris Packham, UTSA Professor of Physics & Astronomy: ‘Sniffing’ Exoplanet Atmospheres
  • Susan Lederer, NASA Lead Scientist, Orbital Debris Program Office: Mapping exoplanets in the Trappist planetary system
  • Jon Olansen, NASA Gateway Production Manager: Gateway & the return to the Moon
  • Kurt Retherford, Southwest Research Institute Scientist: San Antonio to the moons of Jupiter
  • Walter Ugalde, NASA Technology Transfer Office Licensing Lead: Connecting San Antonio Tech with NASA
  • During the event we will be discussing the Texas involvement in these exciting projects, and how we are connecting to the world...and beyond! Tune in, be a part of the conversation, and learn more about the role San Antonio and Texas plays in Solar System and exoplanet exploration!
