Digital Inclusion Forum – Engaging the Tech Community

Solving San Antonio's Digital Divide!

Come Out and Join the Conversation on the State of Digital Divide in San Antonio.

Join Tech Bloc as we partner with the San Antonio Digital Inclusion Alliance and UTSA's College of Public Policy on Tuesday, September 25th for a Digital Inclusion Forum dedicated to engaging the SA Tech Community in solving this important issue. This forum replaces our September #Tech2sDay.

Digital Inclusion Forum – Engaging the Tech Community

The digital divide is real. In San Antonio, nearly 1 in 6 households do not have a computer and nearly 1 in 4 do not have Internet access. This positions San Antonio among the 15 US cities with more than 100,000 households with ‘worst connectivity’. Because so many daily activities – from education, work, and financial services to civic engagement, healthcare, and social interaction require online access to accomplish, our San Antonio residents are at a severe disadvantage. If San Antonio is to be competitive in today’s digital economy, its citizens need online access and to be not only literate but proficient with this technology. Finally, the lack of digital access has a pervasive impact on the tech industry. The digital divide means fewer tech workers available to join the local workforce and fewer customers for San Antonio tech companies.

The forum panelists will include:

Craig Hopkins - CIO, City of San Antonio

Jo Ana Alvarado – Director Innovative Technology, SAHA

Jordana Barton – Federal Reserve

Steven Hussain – Chief Mission Services Officer, Goodwill

Moderator: Matt Reedy – IT Technical Director, USAA and Tech Bloc Board Member

Snacks and refreshments provided.
